Recognition Awards

Brief

The 4th of May is recognition day, a concept devised by Cog design. The idea is that once a year people can have a platform to express thanks and take time to show appreciation. Each year Cog design issue a competition brief to students to explore the term ‘Recognition’.

Response

I decided to encourage the recognition of others, to become aware of the aspirations and dreams of those about you. I used an existing Japanese tradition of wish making, which is the Dharma doll, a deities head that desires can be directed to. I produced an A1 origami poster with a template based on the Dharma doll. However instead of wishing for yourself, you are asked to wish for someone else. The poster has a supply of facial features which you can use to render the recipient of your wish. I produced a series of posters both male and female with various hair colours.
My work was shortlisted to the last 15 and used in promotional packs sent out to agencies and people involved with recognition day.

My work was featured in the September 2008 issue of Creative Review (p22) as part of their graduate showcase.
